To help us understand Britain’s breakfast habits, we teamed up with YouGov to find out just how many of us actually make time for a proper breakfast. And, well…the results were eye-opening!
- 16% of Brits said they skip breakfast due to lack of time.
- 13% are too busy in the mornings to eat.
- Nearly half of those surveyed spend no more than five minutes preparing breakfast.
- Only 30% believe a full English truly sets them up for the day.

Why is eating a hot Breakfast Important?
Jemma knows first-hand how a protein-packed breakfast can fuel the day ahead. “In my own experience with my children, I’ve seen the benefits of them having a hot meal that’s high in protein to start the day. When they go to school, their concentration and energy levels are really affected by the type of food they eat in the morning,” she says. “But quite often, like other parents, we don’t have enough time.”
Historically, breakfast wasn’t just important – it was essential. “In the 1920s and 1930s, the UK Government promoted breakfast as the most important meal of the day, especially a hot breakfast, to sustain workers,” Jemma explains. “There was even the slogan, ‘Go to work on an egg’. But as convenience foods like sliced bread and sugary cereals took over, the tradition of a hot breakfast started to fade.”
